The 1 Hour Experiment

Quick creative explorations constrained to one hour

This project grew out of a self-designed course on full-stack audio-visual performance — building tightly-coupled visuals for electronic music using Ableton Live and TouchDesigner. Over 12 weeks, the course covered audio-reactive drums, melodic visualization, shader effects, bass and chord progressions, live video, VJ techniques, and projection mapping.

The 30-day sprint was the midterm: take everything learned and post a new clip to Instagram every day for a month. Each piece was built from scratch in roughly one hour — no time for overthinking architecture, polishing details, or second-guessing. The constraint forces immediate decisions and rewards instinct over perfection.

The results range from particle systems and audio-reactive geometry to glitch effects and ambient drones. Some are rough; some are surprisingly complete. All of them fed into a larger goal of developing a live audio-visual performance.
